Inferior Scroll

Inferior Scroll is a re-enactment of Carolee Schneemann’s seminal 1975 work Interior Scroll. Between then and now, multiple re-enactments of the work have been staged by cis women artists. Krishna Istha re-enactment explores the positioning of trans artists in feminist performance art, creating dialogue around bodily autonomy and trans fetishisation. The artist’s nude body depicts performativity, reinforcing intersectional identity and normalising the complexities of trans bodies. The piece is titled Inferior Scroll as a nod to the way trans bodies are treated as disposable and inferior to cis bodies within the arts industry and wider society.

Inferior Scroll was invited by LADA for Once More With Feeling, an online programme of four instruction pieces and performance re-enactments.
