Sex Workers Opera

Breaking through stigma and stereotypes, the Sex Workers’ Opera is a multimedia production written and performed by Sex Workers and their friends.

With music spanning Opera to ‘Hip-Hopera’, incorporating sound art, projections and poetry, it offers an unflinchingly honest, upliftingly human insight into the lives of Sex Workers around the world.

“You say that sex is all you see, well then I think you see me in 2D

because the actual reality is a mosaic blur – a tapestry.” – Anon. Sex Worker

The most recent production at the Arcola Theatre, Dalston in January 2015 saw a sell-out run extended due to overwhelming demand. The show ran for 2 hours with a cast, crew and orchestra of 24 including a specialist performance artist flying in from Berlin.

Created through a waves of workshops run by XX – Experimental Experience theatre company, featuring over 100 stories sent in from around the world, and a cast and crew of 50% Sex Workers, this is a rare opportunity to hear stories from a hidden and misrepresented world from the workers themselves.
